British Airways in South Africa is run by Comair Limited, and operates scheduled, reliable flights from Johannesburg to Durban, Johannesburg to Port Elizabeth, Johannesburg to Cape Town, Johannesburg to Harare, Johannesburg to Victoria Falls, Johannesburg to Livingstone, Johannesburg to Windhoek, and Cape Town to Durban.
British Airways’ branch in South Africa started off as an airline founded by World War II South African Air Force colleagues, incorporated on 17 December 1943 as Commercial Air Services. It initially focused on charter operations, commencing on 15 June 1946. Scheduled services between Rand Airport, Johannesburg and Durban began on 1 July 1948. As the airline grew over the decades, they had to expand to include services on major domestic routes using Boeing 737-200 aircraft. In 2007, Comair extended its franchise agreement for a further eleven years.
